COUNTY.

With a population of just 181,215 – 44,003 of which reside in El Centro – Imperial County is the 31st most populated county in the state, with an incredibly high Latino population. Despite 45,060 residents living below the poverty line, Imperial County has an incredibly low crime level, recognized as safer than 90% of counties in the nation, with a crime reported every 54 minutes.

Seeing a steady decline in crimes, with a 2.8% drop in violent offenses in the last year, Imperial County is widely regarded as a safe location, seen as an ‘emerging metropolitan area’. Fairly low-level charges, namely theft, burglary, vandalism, and drug crimes represent the four most frequent offenses, with the jail population experiencing a year-on-year decrease since 2009.

Renowned as Imperial County’s premier bail bond agents, our team have experience working with the county’s three jails, committed to safely navigating your loved one’s release. On-hand to answer questions, offer resources, and be a pillar during this trying time, Abaasy Bail Bonds are dedicated to the three S’: speed, simplicity, and support.

JAILS.

Due to the proximity to the USA-Mexico border, alongside three adult jails, Imperial County hosts several ICE facilities, such as the Imperial Regional Detention Facility and El Centro Service Processing Center.

Located on 1329 Sperber Road in El Centro, Oren R. Fox Detention Facility (OFDF) is a 274-bed, medium-security jail, having recently seen a $33million investment. With six housing units, each containing up to 45 inmates, coupled with a 4-bed medical center, this jail is renowned for delivering a multitude of programs, with dedicated classrooms to develop life skills and receive a formal education.

Located on 328 Applestill Road in El Centro, Imperial County Jail, also known as The Herbert Hughes Correctional Center, is a 314-bed minimum-security jail. Known for offering several vocational programs to reduce recidivism rates, including high school education and valuable experience in food preparation roles, this jail nurtures family connections through in-person visits beyond the facility’s doors. Inmates reside in one of six housing units, with advanced technology allowing them to stay connected to officials.

Located on 1115 North Imperial Avenue in El Centro, the 288-bed Regional Adult Detention Facility houses arrestees awaiting trial or sentencing. Since its 1981 foundation, the jail has served a range of male and female populations, with each inmate allocated a two-person cell in one of the twelve two-story housing zones. There are ten beds in the medical housing unit for inmates with additional psychical or psychiatric needs; five male and five female, with vocational training also on offer.

COURTS.

Imperial County is home to four courts; Brawley Courthouse on 220 Main Street, El Centro Courthouse on 939 West Main Street, Infractions Court on 939 West Main Street in El Centro, and Winterhaven Court on 2124 Winterhaven Dr. While the Infractions Court sees relatively minor law violations, the remaining three courts see a range of cases, spanning civil, criminal, family, probate, and traffic matters.
